Groovatron: Band History

Groovatron Is:

  • Nick Ferrer -- Guitar
  • Marc Quagliara -- Guitar
  • Tony Qualls -- Bass
  • Tony McCullough -- Saxophone
  • Andy Dumaresq -- Drums
  • Steve Pesich -- Percussion

  • The beginnings of Groovatron go back to a small town in the Northwest corner of Indiana called Munster. It was there that all the current members of Groovatron came together during high school. The original formation of the band known as Groovatron started in 1997, as I understand it. At the time Ferrer, Qualls, McCullough, and Quagliara were all a part of the band along with some other people who would later leave the band. Dumaresq and Pesich would join in later years to complete what is now known as Groovatron.

As is my understanding, the band began playing in the Northwest Indiana area early on as various parties and coffee houses and began to develop a local following that convinced the band to try to broaden it's base beginning in 2001 after the release of their album Yes, Have Some. They began playing around Indiana and up into Chicago and the surrounding areas. In the early part of 2002, Groovatron decided it was time to hit the road and did their first tour down South. They've since added a manager and have begun playing numerous shows throughout the midwest and the south throughout 2002 and even took their first swing out west for a week of shows in Colorado in August of 2002.

While I don't know what the band has in store for 2003 at this point, I am sure it will consist of playing numerous shows all over the country. I wouldn't be surprised to see them looking to take off out to the East coast sometime in 2003 and another trip out west is certainly possible as well. As always, I'm sure we'll be seeing alot of them in the Midwest as they continue to build a steady fan base in many of the college towns throughout the Midwest and down South.
